Summary

Backend and integration engineer; early hire at ShipShap (B2B SaaS — order management, shipping, payments, and fulfillment for businesses selling direct to consumers, including in-house shipping in Kenya). Created core Django apps for carrier and e-commerce integrations from scratch. Primary owner of DHL Express integration (30k+ labels processed). Built WooCommerce platform integration and production plugin. Remote-first.

Experience

Software Engineer · ShipShap

Nov 2020 – Aug 2026 · Remote / Addis Ababa

Carrier integrations (created providers_dhl, providers_g4s, providers_speedaf apps)

  • Built and owned DHL Express integration end-to-end: rates, multi-parcel label purchase, tracking sync, and holiday-aware retry when scheduled pickup falls on a non-business day — completing reliable label purchase for enterprise clients
  • Hardened DHL tracking validation when carrier reuses shared shipment tracking numbers
  • Built G4S and Speedaf (Kenya) integrations: encrypted API signing, city-based rate tables, and reliable tracking event ordering despite unreliable carrier timestamps

E-commerce platform integrations (created platforms_woocommerce, platforms_shopify)

  • Built WooCommerce integration from scratch: OAuth (wc-auth), scoped API tokens, signed webhooks, order/product sync, and reliable credential delivery on store connect
  • Built and maintain ShipShap WooCommerce plugin (PHP): OAuth connect, checkout shipping rates, pickup points, HPOS compatibility, and third-party checkout compatibility (Elementor, etc.) — primary plugin author
  • Built Shopify integration from scratch: OAuth, order import, fulfillment and label visibility; contributed ongoing reliability improvements (line-item and discount handling, HTTP timeout retries)

API, payments & fulfillment

  • Extended public shipping-labels API with payment details, proof-of-delivery / cash-on-delivery fields, and rate-purchase linkage
  • Built inventory stock tracking with safe concurrent updates across product variants
  • Built pickup-point checkout and fulfillment session workflows
  • Production incident response: label purchase failures, merchant plugin issues, client-specific integration debugging

Early startup

  • Among the first engineers (3-person dev team, 30+ employee company); core backend engineer from day one

Stack: Python, Django, Django REST Framework, Celery, PostgreSQL, Redis, GCP, GKE, Docker, PHP, WooCommerce, Shopify API, React, Next.js
